Closing of Basically British Tea Room and Shop

When you love what you do, and the people you spend time with, it's tempting to keep things exactly as they are. But inevitably, life continues to move on around us and sometimes it's necessary to move out of our comfort zone back into the mainstream of life, with all its complexities.

After days and weeks of debate, triggered by the knowledge that our lease would need renewing, we decided to close the Basically British Tea Room and Shop. We feel it is time to move on to other things in life from a business that started as a post-retirement pastime but grew into a full-time occupation. We thank everyone who has supported us and given us so much encouragement over the years.

We have been fortunate to have had loyal and supportive customers in the tearoom, and we have made many new friends whom we value greatly. We have a treasure-trove of memories to which each of you has contributed. Our hope is that those of you who have been to the tea room will also take with you many pleasant memories of Basically British.

Although we closed the shop and tea room, we intend to maintain a web presence and will be keeping our web site active. We will have more information on our plans for this soon.
